Leadership Transition at Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. (HCCB), the largest bottler of The Coca-Cola Company in India, has announced a significant leadership change. Hemant Rupani, a seasoned business leader with extensive experience across various industries and companies, will assume the role of CEO, effective September 8. This appointment marks an important step in HCCB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in the Indian beverage market.
A Career Spanning Multiple Industries
Hemant Rupani brings a wealth of experience from his nine-year tenure at Mondelez International Inc., where he served as the business unit president for Southeast Asia. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing operations in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. His deep understanding of regional markets and strategic leadership have made him a valuable asset to the company.
Before joining Mondelez, Hemant had a diverse career that included roles in the food, technology, and telecommunications sectors. He began his professional journey in 1997 with ICI India Limited, a paint company, before moving to PepsiCo in 1999. Over the years, he held increasing responsibilities at PepsiCo, eventually becoming senior vice president, customer marketing, for India Beverages.
In 2010, he transitioned to Vodafone, where he contributed to the growth of the telecommunications sector in India. Later, he joined Britannia Industries as vice president, sales and business head for breads, further expanding his expertise in the consumer goods industry.
A Strong Academic Background
Hemant's educational foundation is equally impressive. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Regional Engineering College in Jaipur, India, and an MBA in marketing from the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Delhi. These qualifications have equipped him with the analytical and strategic skills necessary to lead large-scale organizations.
Strategic Vision for HCCB
As the new CEO of HCCB, Hemant will report directly to the company’s board of directors. His appointment follows the departure of the current CEO, Juan Pablo Rodriguez, who is transitioning to a new role within The Coca-Cola system. Hemant’s leadership is expected to drive continued growth and innovation at HCCB, particularly as the company continues to invest heavily in the Indian market.
HCCB has been a key player in the Indian beverage industry, and the recent agreement between The Coca-Cola Company and the Jubilant Bhartia Group underscores the confidence in the company’s future. In December 2024, the two entities announced a deal for Jubilant Bhartia Group to acquire a 40% stake in Hindustan Coca-Cola Holdings Pvt. Ltd., HCCB’s parent company. This partnership is anticipated to enhance HCCB’s operational capabilities and expand its market reach.
