A high-end beachside restaurant in Mykonos, Greece, has become the center of controversy after numerous customers reported being shocked by exorbitant bills. The establishment, known as DK Oyster, is located on the scenic Platis Gialos beach and markets itself as a luxurious destination for those seeking relaxation and exclusive experiences. However, its reputation has been marred by a series of negative reviews from tourists who claim they were taken advantage of financially.

One traveler, identified only as Jessica L on TripAdvisor, described her experience at DK Oyster as "the worst in Mykonos." In a one-star review, she detailed how she and her group were charged over €1,000 for just three dishes. She specifically mentioned paying €350 for a single piece of fish, which she found unreasonable. Jessica compared her experience to that of Scorpions, a well-known restaurant in the area, stating that even there, the prices were far more reasonable for a similar meal.

The restaurant’s pricing structure has come under scrutiny, with many customers alleging that they were not informed of the full cost of their meals until the final bill arrived. Some diners claimed they were charged based on the weight of the fish without prior notice. For example, a menu item lists sea bream at €24.80 per 100g, but customers have reported being surprised by the total amount when the bill was presented.

Other TripAdvisor users echoed similar frustrations, calling DK Oyster a “complete scam.” One customer, Sue, shared an incident where a staff member brought over an unrequested drink, claiming it was a gift for the group. However, the drink appeared on the bill, leading to a charge of €400 for a handful of alcoholic and soft drinks, including €35 for a Coca-Cola.

Another visitor, Amrita, who dined at the restaurant in June 2024, said she was lured in by free sunbeds and given a menu. She ordered fish without realizing that the price was based on the weight of the entire fish. When the bill arrived for €400, she discovered that the fish served was over 1kg in weight.

Gabriela, another customer, accused the restaurant of theft, claiming that staff convinced guests to order expensive beers and then quickly presented the bill. She described the experience as aggressive and misleading.

Some visitors have urged others to avoid the restaurant altogether. One guest noted that while lunch and sunbeds cost €35, adding two bottles of water and a Diet Coke resulted in an additional €51. They also mentioned being charged €5 for ketchup and €18 for small fries, highlighting what they saw as excessive and hidden fees.

DK Oyster has long maintained a controversial reputation, frequently making headlines for its pricing practices. Despite offering plush sunbeds and dramatic seaside views, many reviewers argue that the luxury aspect is overshadowed by the high costs and questionable tactics used to generate revenue.

In 2024, MailOnline Travel revealed that the restaurant’s owner, Dimitrios Kalamaras, flaunts his jet-setting lifestyle on social media. He is believed to profit significantly from tourists who order food or drinks without checking the prices carefully.

The controversy reached new heights in July 2024 when DK Oyster was reported to have charged €121 for three scrawny crab legs to undercover journalists from MailOnline. Kalamaras was seen arguing with a reporter over the astronomical bill, further fueling public outrage.

As the debate continues, many are questioning whether the restaurant is truly a place for relaxation or a trap for unsuspecting tourists. With so many negative reviews and allegations of misleading pricing, it seems that DK Oyster is struggling to maintain its image as a high-end dining experience.
